A program designed by and for the academic community

Librería García Cambeiro Open Access is a library crowdfunding program that funds opening academic monographs on JSTOR. It was born in 2020 out of the conviction that academic knowledge should be a public good, not a privilege.

We work with leading university presses to negotiate book collections that, thanks to the collective participation of hundreds of libraries, become permanently and freely available on the JSTOR platform.

Our model doesn't require any single institution to carry the cost alone. By spreading the funding, we make possible what no library could achieve on its own.

Full transparency

We publish all of the program's financial data. Every library knows exactly how funds are distributed and which titles are opened.

Global access without barriers

Once opened, the books are accessible to any researcher in the world, with no paywalls or geographic restrictions.

A collaborative model

No library carries the cost alone. Crowdfunding spreads the funding across hundreds of institutions, making viable projects that would be impossible individually.

Academic sustainability

We work directly with university presses to ensure that open access doesn't mean unsustainable subsidies, but innovative business models.
